Back in 1985 the Lexus LS and ES where the two models that helped kick start the Lexus. Over the years Lexus has built a reputation for offering luxury cars that rival its German competitiors.

This week we were in Cullian, Pretoria sampling the all-new Lexus ES300h,.

The ES stood for Elegant Sedan when the first generation made its debut and with this seventh generation the label fits more than ever before, from it’s large griile with chrome trims, slim LED headlights, smooth body creases to it’s sloping roofline and boot-spoiler the ES300h really beautiful and elegant it’s one those cars that you won’t just walk past by without admiring espicially when finished in this Ice Ecur color, Black or the Sunlight green.

Stepping inside the car you do feel like your’re a luxury vehicle, there’s soft touch leather material all-round and less cheaper plastic material, The seats are very comfortable. the eight-inch infotainment screen now includes Apple CarPlay®2 and Android™3 Auto compatibility as standard, as well as free Wi-Fi connectivity for the driver and passengers under the “Connect” banner. Although the ES300h EX doesn’t get the Mark Levinson sound system the 10 speaker Lexus Premium Audio does an incredible job. All ES models are have full range adaptive cruise control, rear-view camera with park distance control.

The ES 300h exclusively utilises the advanced Lexus self-charging hybrid electric system, combining an ultra-efficient 2.5-litre Atkinson cycle four-cylinder petrol engine working with an electric motor to produce 160kW of power

On the road it feels very refined there’s less road noise, the steering feels lights which making it easier to drive, the suspension is a bit firm however it goes a great job at absorbing some of the roads imperfections. Lexus claims a fuel economy figure of 4.2/km,during our test we averaged 5.4l/km, sure this figure is high than the claimed but it’s probably the best fuel economy you will get in this segment.

If you’re looking for a premium luxury sedan at an affordable the Lexus ES300h is something you should seriously consider, It’s distinctive japanesse flair, well-built cabin and great fuel economy figures makes it a great value for money car and given the Brand’s incredible reputation for being reliable owing one should be a joy!
