Porche 911 (992) lands in SA
For years the Porsche 911 has been a true gentlemen’s car. It’s sporty design, minimalistic interior has made it a quite popular choice amongst sophisticated and elite gentlemen. The new 911 (992) has landed on the South African soil, has it lost its roots? Is it still a true gentlemen’s car?
Like most finer things in life, The Porsche 911 seems to get better with every generation, The new generation Porsche 911 is an evolution from the previous model and is longer and 45mm wider than the previous generation 911. In the front, you will notice headlights with a 4 LED set up just like in the 918, a redesigned grille which opens when the engine is hot to let cool air in and closes when it’s not as well as a redesigned bonnet with a dynamic recess profiles and straight slope to the front apron, a nod to the first generation 911 models– seems like The 911 hasn’t lost its roots after all.
From generations to generations the Porsche 911 has had one of the best rears in the automotive industry and this 7th generation 911 is no exception to it. This new model features a redesigned taillights along with a red LED light that runs across the width of the car.quad tailpipes is standard on the 911, however, An oval-shaped double sport exhaust system is an optional extra.
The interior of the 911 blends in a minimalistic retro 911 interior design with a modern touch to it. The dashboard is angular just like in the earlier 911 models, A 11inch touchscreen powers the infotainment system and features such as Satellite Navigation Apple Carplay and Android Auto. The gauge cluster features an analog rev counter and two digital screen(one on either side) of the rev counter which display various information such as the the navigation,fuel gauge as well as the drive modes which now has a new and impressive drive mode called “WET MODE”,A drive mode which enhances safety in wet weather conditions while ensuring a pleasant driving experience.
The Porsche 911 comes in two trims the 911 Carrera S with a rear-wheel-drive system, The 911 Carrera 4S with a rear will drive. Both models are powered by a 2,9 flat six-cylinder engine producing 331 kW of power and 530Nm of torque and is coupled to PDK 8-speed transmission. This engine propels the Carrera S from 0-100km/h in just 3.5 seconds and the Carrera 4S in just 3.2 seconds.
