Toyota has proven to be reliable car brand, a favourite amongst South Africans and given that we have an appetite for bakkies it’s no surprise that one of the best selling Bakkies in the country is the Toyota Hilux. Toyota has added two new flavours to the Hilux: The legend 50 and the GR Sport.

The Hilux GR Sport

The Hilux GR Sport is an off-road performance-orientated bakkie built by Gazoo Racing (Toyota’s motorsport division).In front, the GR sport has a black painted bonnet, the Toyota badge is replaced by the words Toyota in bold. The front bumper consists of chrome trims around the foglights. From the sides, you will notice the Hilux has red, and white stickers and new 17 inches black alloys wheels. The interior consists of black leather upholstery with red stitching with piano black trims on the centre console and a red trims run across the dashboard. The Hilux GR only available as a double cab and uses a 2.8 turbo-diesel engine which produces 130kW and 450Nm coupled to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Only 500 units will be available for the South African market and are priced at R707 400 per unit.

The Hilux legend 50

The Hilux Legend50 is a tribute to the bakkies’ 50th anniversary. It is quite similar to the standard Hilux, it gets Legend 50 badging around the cars It is available as a single cab, Xtra cab and Double Cab. Consumers can choose between a choice of two engines the 2.0 turbo-diesel engine which is found in GR Sport and a 4.0 V6 engine which produces 175kW of power and 376Nm coupled to either a 6 speed automatic or manual transmission.
